    name this exhaust part

    I am stumped.

I did manage to make this one, a curved female end flange (front) to take a bevelled lead slippery type donut...
it is the back half that needs new piece. flange broken, and I want to step up the size of donut and pipe going into front flange.

    I have springs , bolts...

what do I call this when looking for it?

I may end up making the whole thing otherwise.

I did find the ball flange...very freakishly expensive...and it gets stuck. This car stuck is raped exhaust studs of disaster at the heads.

I guess I resort to my amazing skills.
I need the slippery donut version...cannot find a name for it...and getting a catalyst that could care less if it is the graphite/lead one.(I learned of the poison on the old design)

Visit the boneyard, swipe a ball flange (or equivalent) from a non-rusty newer something-or-other? Cheapest alternative I can think of....

Most FWD cars use them. Even aftermarket headers. I've seen them in autoparts stores as well. Heck, I just bought two a couple oaths ago for my MAC headers. The headers already had the ball end but didn't come with the female end to connect the exhaust system.

                yep.
found it in a chrysler lebaron and a pile of others...same gasket for all of them, even the old subaru is listed.

the back half is a flat flange and set a distance one wants for spring, this means welding anyway.
so that part was easy...just buy flat flange, ring a bead to seat donut, then put flange wherever. they are never in the same spot, makes this tricky. the springs I am using most likely came from a cylinder head.
the last donut I bought went 4 years and survived a thermite exhaust melting episode, and finally triggered a memory via photo.
the lebaron/subaru all metal donut ring, and it doesn't explode cats.

it would be nice to just get that all one piece and install... oh well. Even meineke hacked that to fixed for me more than once.

the hard part is finding the gentle concave female end that accepts the ring. the one in the car now may be (don't laugh) from a model T ford...those are out there still today. That can be replaced with yet another version I found, but it seems small.. some japanese car.. I'd have to look it up again.
