I just found this topic and wanted to throw in my two cents.
On another forum their resident genius recommends manifold vacuum also.
I set my idle timing at 15 BTDC and then plugged in the manifold vacuum and got 36 degrees at 2800rpms for a total of 53 degrees.
My car idles better, instant throttle response and the temp dropped 20 degrees!
My cam is a Comp Cams 475 lift, 276/284 duration cam,.
So then I used no vacuum and uped the idle and what I used to think was right was nothing more than a rough running surging at all speeds dog.
