I'm local and have been interested in running out there for years. Although I can't make it Friday, If I drove my '67 Charger out there on Saturday to spectate, would there be anyone there to go over my car with me, basically a test-tech, and let me know what I need to do to run a future event? I'm setup for NHRA and Silver State ORR.
Definitely come down to the lake bed and get a feel for what is going on! Among other things more costly, you will need to join a timing club to run a future event. There are lots of requirements that are very different from other types of racing re: safety equipt etc. so I recommend checking out the SCTA web site for all of the particulars. The rule book can be purchased on the site and its a good read. It is very club oriented, and the serious guys are ... serious. I am also very interested in running ElMirage, but my pockets are not full enough and I dont have enough time or a timing club membership, so I go and watch! Its a heck of a lot of fun with a wild selection of stuff to see. Ill get some pics posted of Mays meet in a day or so.
I'm an SCTA tech inspector and run at the lake bed. I was getting car #701 ready to go when you posted this or I'd have stepped up then. I'd be happy to look your car over next meet but let me make this suggestion first. Go to www.scta_bni.org. and down load the tech spec. sheet. This will tell you what the inspectors will be checking when you go through tech.
There are very few people in this world who's opinion I value, you are not one of them.
WOW - great pics! I can't believe I missed them. Ah, well, I saw them now. There are a couple of really interesting ones in there for me. The baby two stroke on a full size frame in particular, I just unloaded a 2 cylinder Yamaha LS2 100cc and really wanted to look into that kind of class for bucket list trip to B-ville.
Beagle,
Thanks for the props on the pics. My wife is the photographer for the most part. El Mirage is a great place to spectate (if you dont mind a little dust). My shop is about 10 minutes up Sheepcreek road from the lake, so its an easy "hike out" to see the sights. The 100cc bike made a racket but I dont know how he did against the record he was going after. Id love to be in the rookie lane myself someday. 701 always looks good on the mud, ignition issues or not so Ill repost...
