Mike I had a '62 Impala SS that was a Drag car ( I put it on the street). Center support bearing brackets removed from inside X frame and one piece drive shaft worked well. I'm not saying that this is the best way to convert. Better idea is to look into the "Lowrider" scene. There are some great companies out there making billet center bearings and slip joint shafts. I have used these on a '63 impala Lowrider. IMHO this would be the best and simple solution........

I also considered a one peice DS with my 60, but just put a $19 center bearing from Auto Zone in it and it worked great. The new owner has never replaced it in 4yrs. either. IMHO the u-joints will fail before the pencil sized "propeller shaft" !

Good luck with that cool old car,

thanks for all the input.....you too Mike, I will work on my photography
I have looked at the CPP billet(steel, not aluminum)poly bearing, as many have said the housing breaks first, but like DTB says, those 1310's are a weak link. I don't really plan on any major HP in this car as FSK gets the keys when it's done(she did give me the 53 though). Maybe I will just look at a regular bearing and a new housing, as long as I have it out.
Maybe I can clear this up.....I thought the cop was a prostitute.
