Good on ya for getting after it with a Caprice and putting a large inch SBC in it. I am going the rat route, but here's to hoping we run into each other on Power Tour next year.

Those Dart heads are nice pieces.
That which you manifest is before you.

[QUOTE=TC;665873]More like 15+ years ago........... It's what the article stated, it was their results........ But then I'm sure you don't think DF knows what he's doing either.......... They made more average HP with the 5.7 rod than they did with the longer and shorter rods, that is fact, printed in black and white................

What was the difference in HP and torque between the 3 rod lengths?

From what I've read, it's minimal... two or three percent. Unless I was building a purpose-built race engine, I wouldn't use the gains I could get from rod length alone be the determining factor. As Jeff mentioned, the ring pack in the 6" rod is worth some hp; and as I mentioned, getting the optimal dish or D-dish is easier to do (with off the shelf items) with a longer than stock rod.

Good news: picked up the heads last night and they look great. Brand new in the box. I think they are the Platinum series, as I couldn't find them with 2.080 intake valves in the normal Iron Eagle series.

Bad (depending how you look at it): two kids showed up last night and bought the Caprice. Price was right and the wife hated that car with a passion. Just opens up the fun of a search for another body.

I am meeting someone tomorrow night that is interested in swapping my 1996 Mustang GT convert for a 1984 Corvette with 70,000 miles. Both cars have minor issues but the vette has 30,000 miles on a replaced motor. Maybe kill two birds with 1 stone and drop my motor in that (my brother thinks it's a great idea).

Thanks for the advice so far. I will keep updating the thread as I continue.

                Valve choice:

                comp cams
                elgin
                manley
                ferrea

Elgins are really nicely priced for a set of intake and exhaust valves, but you ask 5 different people, you get 5 different answers. Kinda leaning towards the manley just on the reviews.

The machinist I use for my performance stuff likes Ferrea - so I like Ferrea.
