Dave - here are some idea's in the Charlotte area.

Since I work downtown Charlotte - I suggest the following:

Nascar Hall of Fame - its 4 floors of Nascar history, family friendly, and children exhibits.

If you park in the building's parking deck - parking is free! (You have to take your parking deck ticket to the Hall of Fame store - and they will validate your ticket)!

          Open 7 days a week 10a - 6pm.

          704.654.4400
          888.902.6463

Hendrick Motorsports - a mile from Zmax Dragway!
          Hours :
          Museum & Team Store
          Monday-Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
          Saturday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nos. 5/24 and Nos. 48/88 Shop
          Monday-Friday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

          Hendrick Motorsports
          4400 Papa Joe Hendrick Blvd.
          Charlotte, N.C. 28262

          DEI -
Not sure of the hours since its a non race week:

Charlotte is the heart of Nascar country - and there are dozens of race shops, vineyards, etc in the region - use this site as a starting point:

Our sport. Our house. The NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC is a shrine to the history and heritage of NASCAR. It is a must-see for all NASCAR fans.

          Thanks,
          Craig

Also the Rangers are playing Saturday afternoon at 3 if you are interested in a baseball game. We may go for a little while. Depends on how much the beer is.
