That used to be Lefty Whites airplane when he was flying airshows. Looked like this:

This happened in 2001 when it wore a different paint scheme:

They called the airplane "White Lightening". Now it's that garish, over-polished monstrosity that Red Bull likes so much.

That is a fact. I do not remeber the exact numbers a primer and paint job add to the overall weight of a C-130 (I use a C130 as a reference because that is my bread and butter) but I believe it is in the 1000 to 1500lb range.

that thought is for 90hp ricers.

            even the tanker tried silver.

I enlisted when this paint was still on the planes, they went to plane (haha) grey:
I did not like it, I am a steel man. I thought the waves were challenging the "backbone". two densities. My first flight in a tanker had this paint, I belly smacked the ceiling to whatever game the pilot was playing. Try cleaning this one. Not fun. Silver is freakishly beautiful.

I can only image that if the flight crew had to communicate with you, and you speak the way you write...they wanted to kill you.

Ohhh man, the P38 is my favorite of all warbirds, I'd love to hear one in person some day
Had a P51 fly over when we all went to the beach when I was a kid
Rumors of my demise by rollover have been greatly exaggerated.

Part of the reason for polishing them was weight, part of it was also daring the Luftwaffe to come up and play. "Here we are, all thousand of us, come and see if you can survive the fight." was the 8th Air Force's modus operandi from mid 1944 on. The Luftwaffe was decimated, the experienced pilots didnt rotate back to training roles, and thus after the attrition of combat they were left with inexperienced pilots. This was by design, and was why we had air supremacy on June 6th 44. Only one flgith of two Me 109s made a single pass on the beaches that day, there simply werent any more planes or pilots left in the area by then.

I love the P38, and the P40. One of my all time favorite aces was Robin Olds, he flew the P38 in WWII, a number of planes in Korea, and the F4 in Vietnam. he was an Ace in the P38.
