This month in Street Rodder magazine there is a tube-framed (looks similar to a AC cobra frame) 500 cube caddy car that was meant to be raced at the track and pike's peak.... that would be interesting to build![]()

On the sump thing, here is a photo to compare the different ones these engines came with.
From left to right:
1. Highly modified Eldorado rear sump pan.
2. Stock Eldo Front-wheel drive rear sump pan. This one has the starter pocket bumped out for more capacity and the front drain plug area cut out. That front drain will be plated over and a drain-back "trough" will be added to move the oil out of the front area and to the rear.
3. 425 Rear wheel drive Mid sump. Note how the sump does NOT go as far rearward as the Eldo pan?
4. Stock Rear wheel drive Front sump pan from a Cadillac Calaise. This is what the pan on the Mustang started life as. It was cut down to little more than a flange and created from there.
5. Small block chevy '67 283 pan for reference.
While I'm at it, why not a comparison of the pickup tubes?
Top = rear wheel drive front sump pan pickup tube. Easily modified for a rear sump by extending the length. This is what the Mustang pickup started as.
Middle = 425 mid sump pickup. Also rear wheel drive.
Bottom = Eldo pickup Front wheel drive for rear sump pan.
I also modified the stock pickup. Took it apart to REALLY clean the screen. See the oval hole? That is all it had for sucking oil into. I added the other 3 round holes, and soldered a penny over the "relief" area to force all oil to go through the screen, then crimped it all back together.
Here is the RWD Calaise pickup tube from above modified by lengthing for the new rear sump. I like it better than the stock eldo pickup because it has less restriction to my eye, due to not having that super huge 180* bend in it. The special main bolt with the mounting provision for the pickup still needs to be moved to a different main cap in this picture.
And here is the modified front sump Calaise pan. It now sports rear sumpness, dipstick tube in the pan, baffles, and lots more capacity.
Any of this help alleviate your itch Randal?![]()

Whether you can or can't, you are usually right.
I can't see the pictures through the firewall here at work, but it's safe to say that oil pans don't do anything for me![]()

that's quite a collection of caddy parts you have there - ah the joy of having barns to fill with parts!
I now know more about Caddy V8's than I ever imagined I would.
