Take the lambo - sell it before it breaks or needs $$ maintenance - and go build a bunch of much cooler cars with the cash.
There's always something new to learn.

You totally missed the mark on that comment. Those that know DF even a little, know he's not the "I can't have it so I'll put it down" type of guy at all.

interesting post manifestospeed. right on the money.

I further look at it from my primitive point of view as people that will do the opposite just to challenge to make a car that is made more from licensing than customers.

looking at those cars bashed every silly american error. the rear arch roots- they made the whole chassis the damn root connection. traction of engine up front, height, width, aero...and what did it get?

            useless on real roads.

gimme the dripping tetanus bumper and my own compilation anyday.
            anyhoo..good show.

I have gone as far as japaense tin cans just for the balance (the oldest boxer engines). neither the lambo or americas greatest has either.

short stroke and more cylinders did not fool me...and you know, I pay less.

the monkey in the middle watches the game.

While I've been known to drink Corona while wearing flip flops, like DF I think I can appreciate both vehicles for what they are and are not all the while knowing I probably won't ever own either one. I will own a Ford GT some day some how dammit.

I think the lead up dealing with the re-launch of HRM and the comments about recent 'dirt ball' content likely tells us about the new direction which I suspect will be a lot less balck and white nostalgia stuff and more current tech whether its for new cars, rods or muscle cars. I can't say I was thrilled with seven pages of trophys in the July issue. The eight pages of OG Gassers was cool but will likely move to Hot Rod Deluxe IMHO.

While i think it will be cool to drive a Lambo... Reality, I most likely ill drive some sort of Ratty.. After all, derby cars are kinda rat roddish.. I wouldnt have such a lay down driving seat.. And not so low, I get stuck like DF did.... and not to get hot so easily...

The comparison of a "tetanus rod" of questionable engineering against an almost "state-of-the-art" factory supercar of arguably abysmal "bang-for-the-buck" makes about as much sense as comparing greasy cut-offs with an Armani Tuxedo. Both will garner "attention" and cover your "bits & pieces." But in the real world, they're "tools" for vastly different jobs.

But then the historic sweep of "blue collar" American performance has been achieving "exotic" results with relatively pedestrian, mass-produced hardware.

That some ignorant and short-sighted "PBR girls" might swoon more over rust than "Euro-trash" is hardly surprising. The "bad boy" message is repeatedly drummed into their heads by popular culture. Besides, there's some sort of genetic/natural selection thing going on here as well.

But the truth is that the vast majorty of women simply don't care about cars. Not even a tiddly bit.
                  MtoSpeed,
You need to get to the bottom of this before I can give your theory any credibility. Does DF really wear flip-flops?

Both of those cars are for nut swingers. The rat is the cooler looking car IMO, but the Lambo would be more fun. Either one would be a PITA to own whenever pulling into a gas station or any place where there is people standing around because of all the dumb questions and comments.

I would like to drive the lambo im sure i wouldnt like getting in and out of it. I would be so worried I would hurt it
I probably wouldnt have much fun but very nice I drive all kinds of ratty stuff and race cars, some are super cool
some suck. as long as im not too twisted up, i like driving ratty stuff.

I also thought the trophy deal was a bit lame and a waste of space that could have been used to feature a car or tech article. As far as the "New Direction" of HOT ROD, I'm anticipating it like you anticipate a fire cracker going off after lighting the fuse.

Dang, I *liked* the trophies. I can't imagine being in the shoes of the guys who have to decide what goes in each magazine. (I'm just lucky to get my name in there two months in a row!!!)

My olds big block prolly STILL has 400LB of torque... after 225,000 miles - and, no it won't go 200 though... an chicks don't dig it....but its a lot cheaper than that lambo thing.... and i have never really enjoyed the whole 'ratrod' theme... but if its DF's vid, i'll watch it.

ed- I also thought the Trophy pages were a waste.

The ski shop I work at is at the chi-chi section of Woodward, there is a Lambo club that hangs out near there comparing their identical cars and their oversized gold jewelry. I'll give an exotic a passing glance, I appreciate the technology and all that, but I will spend a hell of a lot more time checking out a 64 Thunderbolt or a 65 Goat.
