BangShift Question of the Day: What’s Your Least Favorite Automotive Task?

BangShift Question of the Day: What’s Your Least Favorite Automotive Task?

Even the most talented gearheads have at least one task that they don’t like. Ours is wiring. We’re ham-fisted as it is and when you combine that with the need to work in tight spaces and then think conceptually about stuff like electrons, it only goes downhill from there. That being said, we’ve never let it beat us, although we’ve sure sworn enough, sweated enough, and zapped ourselves enough to know that we generally suck at tasks involving electricity.

There are so many niches and small jobs involved in finishing any project that one needs to either be willing to accept that some will go easier than others or simply bust out the wallet and pay a professional to get them through parts that would stall the completion of the entire job.

So, here’s the question:

What’s your least favorite automotive task?

Tell us below in the comment section and throw in a good/embarassing story to back up your thoughts!

I agree 10000000000000% on wiring. how people make it look nice along with getting it all correct amazes me.

Body work for me too. I once painted a 26 foot moving van, I called it the “Museum of Bad Paint”. Orange peel, fish eye, runs, drips…you name it, it was on there.

I DON’T MIND WIRING AS LONG AS I AM THE ONE STARTING IT FROM THE BEGINING. I HATE TO FINISH SOMEONE ELSE WORK THAT THEY STARTED AND I ALSO DON’T WANT ANYONE AROUND.

Drilling out rusty exhaust manifold studs in your driveway. Rusty/damaged threaded fasteners drive me nuts! 😉

Wiring is my day job so no problem there….

I have to say anything I have to do over gets to me.

When I got my Mustang running the trans wouldn’t down shift worth a !@#$,pulled trans, rebuilt trans, replaced trans, adjusted clutch etc etc….
turned out even though the twin disc freeplay was in spec,it wasn’t. Reshimmed clutch stack and it now shifts smooth as butta’

Electrical. I can do simple stuff like hook up a stereo but tracking down electrical gremlins is a pain in the ass. I’d rather pay someone to do it.
