If you’ve ever said that you wouldn’t be caught dead in Prius, make sure not to die in the Bakersfield, California area or else your last ride may actually be in one. I had forgotten about these quickie cell phone photos that I shot on the way to Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield with Chad one morning during the March Meet. You can tell that we’re in Chad’s truck because of the gigundo BangShift logo on the hood. Anyway, it was pretty early and when I saw this thing in the distance, Chad laid the lumber to the 6.0L Suburban and we quickly caught what has to be the weeiest looking hearse ever.
I’ve seen mini-van hearses and stuff but this is just bad. I may add a clause to my will stating that my bag of bones will not be allowed to get within 30-feet of a Prius hearse. We bet some dearly departed gearhead’s ghost has already cursed that thing. It was definitely built by a professional company as the rear doors are completely gone, replaced with new sheetmetal. You can see that the roof is hinged and the “trunk” must open up like a big clam shell. This ain’t right. We like our hearses of the full sized variety, but I guess even those are shrinking when compared to the grand Cadillacs of yesteryear.

I can’t imagine how a Prius, even modified, would be big enough to carry the average casket. Not only is an average casket wider than a Prius, but I’m not sure it could carry the weight.
But the better question is WHY? would anyone do this.
