Question Of The Day: Where Do You Think The Demon’s Horsepower Figure Will Be?

Question Of The Day: Where Do You Think The Demon’s Horsepower Figure Will Be?

It’s been one of the longest tease-outs we can remember seeing in the automotive world that still has a mystery left hours before the reveal. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be the no-bull, straight-line monster that we first suspected was going to arrive as the Challenger ADR around last fall. We knew the car would have some sort of wide-body kit on it. We knew that massive rubber would appear at all four corners, and we suspected (correctly, it seems) that it would get a power bump over the Hellcat. We did not expect things like the transbrake, the intercooler system, the anti-lag, the special drag radials, or the crate full of goodies, but then again, the Demon isn’t intended to be your typical production car.

With all of the teaser videos, spy shots, and pleading, however, in the few hours leading up to FCA’s big reveal at 7:30 PM Eastern, there is one major question mark left in the way: what is the freaking horsepower figure of this beast?! The rumor mill has been going stir-crazy trying to decipher the numbers and if you believe some of the more fringe elements of the Internet, someone has the official numbers and printed them, but we have doubts about that…namely, as invested as Tim Kuniskis (the man behind FCA’s North America cars) is with the Demon project, we highly doubt that he’s handed out any critical information to anyone.

Here’s what we think: we believe that for standard use, the Demon will have a slight bump in power, and there’s a lot of signs pointing to a figure around 750-760 horsepower if you scan the videos. That isn’t near enough to justify the investment in this whole program, though. We are sincerely beginning to suspect that there is more…a LOT more…in store. Like four-digit horsepower levels more. Think about it: there is a transbrake, anti-lag, and a system to allow the car to run on 100 octane racing fuel. And in the “Crate” teaser video, there was mention of Direct Connection performance parts and the Demon Track Pack system. We highly suspect that FCA wants the Demon under ten seconds in the quarter mile.

So, with the clock ticking down, hazard a guess. Will Dodge play it safe and only give the monster some cool toys and a slight power bump, or are they preparing to play King Of The Mountain with every other player in the market?

Not sure if its going to be true or not but some digging around from sources including an “insider”has said the car will actually have 3 different tunes. tune 1 will have 757hp, tune 2 will have 815hp, and tune 3 which will be the 100 octane tune will require the purchase of the “crate” which includes a computer tune from mopar/direct connection will make 1023hp. If this turns out to be true this is a car deep in the 9’s. Will it be true? Guess we will see but it would be a game changer.

For those of you in the Carlisle, PA area they’re having a big launch party at the Carlisle Expo Center across the street from the Fairgrounds tonight.

An invitation only display inside the center including one of the Chargers from the Fast & Furious movies plus there will also be lots of other Mopars outside as well. The parking lot is quite large there so feel free to bring your vintage ride there.

There will be a live screening directly from the New York Auto Show that from what I understand is only going out to 3 locations(here, NY and LA) so that’s pretty cool.

    Should be a great time.
