(By Eric Rood) – In the 1950s, manufacturers and dealerships started releasing promotional records to the public. I was looking for a couple of specific ones, but I instead stumbled upon this great relic uploaded by YouTube user “78revolutions.” It’s a playable postcard sent out by Ford in late 1955 to promote the new 1956 Ford lineup. On the card, Ford spokeswoman Rosemary Clooney stands in a skimpy Mrs. Claus outfit next to what looks like a ‘56 Victoria.
While both she and the Ford are lookers, you could actually pop the postcard onto a turntable and listen to Clooney pitch the ‘56 Fords to the tune of “Jingle Bells” at 78 RPM. Direct mail from dealerships sure isn’t the same these days.
