BangShift Daily Tune Up: Link Wray And The Wraymen – Drag Race (Year Unknown)

Link Wray has been recognized as one of the greatest guitar players of all time by places like Rolling Stone magazine and lots of the legendary guitar players of today cite him and his music as influences on their own careers. This tune, a guitar driven instrumental called Drag Race is perfect for getting us in the mood for our 2013 March Meet coverage that is set to begin in just two days from Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California. Coupling the awesome tune with some of the coolest vintage drag racing footage we’ve seen in some time is true genius from whoever made this YouTube video.

While you listen to the song you’ll see guys like KS Pittman, Connie Kalitta, “Sneaky” Pete Robinson, and a host of others roll by the camera at what looks to be Pomona back in the late 1960s. Is it wrong to be just as geeked out at the coolness of the push trucks as we are at the drag cars they’re helping down the return road? Let’s hope not because we are!

PRESS PLAY BELOW TO HEAR LINK WRAY JAM OUT HIS SONG DRAG RACE WHILE ENJOY THE CLASSIC DRAG STRIP FOOTAGE THAT IT IS JOINED UP WITH!
