Money No Object: Imagine All Of The Fun That Could Be Had With This 1991 Pontiac Tojan Knightmare!

Money No Object: Imagine All Of The Fun That Could Be Had With This 1991 Pontiac Tojan Knightmare!

Hello, pastel suits, nose candy, New Wave and slurring British-like accents. It’s good to see you again…we think. Meet the Pontiac Tojan, one of a few hundred made. If you see a bodykitted late third-gen Pontiac Firebird, you’re dead on. Except for the “bodykit” part…this was a semi-factory deal that Pontiac made with Knudsen Automotive (now known as RAGE Vehicles). With the goal of making the F-body look like the most expensive things that Italy had to offer, the Tojan was an expensive proposition that simply put, wasn’t worth the coin: to get a Firebird that looked like the result of a one-night stand between a Bricklin and a Fiero, you would be out about $65,000 then (for 1991, that would be about $115,000 today) and you’d still end up with a 305 and a four-speed automatic. You would get a tweaked suspension and disc brakes all the way around, and it wasn’t too difficult to outrun a Ferrari 308 or 348…a pickup truck took care of the Prancing Horse that year, if memory serves us correctly.

Unfortunately, that’s where our knowledge of the Tojan ends. Which leaves us with this handsome and well-kept example seen here. Normally, we’d be looking for clearcoat peel, warping special panels, and the like, but someone has kept this black and gold Tojan well-protected. We have absolutely no clue what the “Knightmare” thing is all about…part of us thinks that is someone’s idea of an add-on…there was rumors of a supercharged, 350-powered Tojan leaving Knudsen Automotive, but finding proof of that car is something else altogether and the seller is clear that what’s underhood is a 350 TPI motor. The seller claims that this is the third and final Knightmare version, and it’s serial number puts it as the third to last car converted. What does that mean to us? Put the TPI mill up for safekeeping and get something underhood that will scare the hell out of some dork in a Gallardo. It’s time to give up the New Wave pop and switch the music up to Metallica’s …And Justice For All era.
