Roadside Find: A 1954 Ford Customline That’s Barely Aged And For Sale, And More!

BangShift contributor Scott Liggett has an eye for finding some neat iron that most people haven’t seen outside of a car show in decades. We simply can’t explain why he is able to find such decent vehicles around his Nebraska home. You don’t even see stuff like this in Arizona…sure, you can find old iron all day long, but not in the condition this 1954 Ford presents itself in. And most certainly not on a used car lot with a price tag well under $10,000, that’s for sure.

I’ll be honest: if my knowledge of cars drops off at 1960, by 1954 I’m barely knowledgeable at all. Many factors come into play there, but mostly it is because it isn’t something that I’ve had the opportunity to see everyday. The ’54 Ford was the last before fins made their way onto the body for 1955. Liggett says the car has a 272ci V8, but from the factory the car came with a 239ci V8. Either way, finding a V8 pre-1955 Ford is a lucky draw, as most of them were six-cylinders from the factory. A Fordomatic auto transmission is another surprise, but the biggest surprise of all is the fact that this baby-blue and white two-door has made it so far along, with the only modification being a CB radio.

I think they were trying to make the buyer think of some luxurious Middle Eastern thing. All I see is upholstery by Hell…seriously, it is like sitting on fire. Comfortable fire, but fire nonetheless.

Had a 54 two door post darned near like that just out of high school. Paid $125.00 cash for it. Mine was dark green with a white top and had a stick shift three on the tree with a 239 V-8. Car would catch rubber in all three, but it wasn’t going anywhere while doing it. Sold the car a few months after I got it, and that began my spiral of buying and selling. Would <3 to have another one…..

Reminds me of the 53 I grew up on and learned to drive on. Had a v8 in it. It was rough but I would have loved to have kept it, but my dad said the engine was failing, cracked block I believe, and he was tired of putting life support into it. Drove it to the wrecking yard and got a few bucks cash for it. Miss that rig.
