What Would You Do With This 1978 Buick Electra Flower Car And It’s Long Bed?

What Would You Do With This 1978 Buick Electra Flower Car And It’s Long Bed?

We’ve gotten pretty used to seeing flower cars here at BangShift. They are some of the fastest ways to find an unconventional American coupe-utility that blends the usefulness of a full-size, rear-drive sedan with a truck bed, they’re usually well appointed and low-mileage. This 1977 Buick Electra Estate Wagon conversion might not be the same as a Cadillac Commercial Chassis or D-body frame, but since it is a B-body frame, that means that the options to build the car up is present and accounted for. The running gear looks pretty basic 1977 fare (Oldsmobile 403, maybe?) and from the front doors forward, it’s standard fare. But from the B-pillar back, it’s a pickup bed, complete with ports underneath the bed that can be accessed via the rear doors.

We’d love to see this being used as a worked-up shop truck. It already has a pretty stout rake going on…if the “bed” comes out, that would make tubbing the rear easy to do, and with some work to the Olds mill we suspect is under that expansive hood, you’d end up with a very capable truck that nobody else would have. Our only sticking point: would you remove the fender skirts or leave them on?

Just beef up the suspension and tweak the motor to withstand the weight of the flower bed and real soil in the bed – or for those with a functioning mind turn it into an air bagged custom bike hauler!

A perfect “Drag Week” car. Big block, back half it, all the needed room for supplies, two extra doors for ride alongs. 🙂

Dually rear axle, extend the cab back far enough to make a ‘crew cab’ with a back seat to cruise friends, AC & luxuries, leave paint as is, crank up the front suspension, so it’s at least level or 4×4 conversion? And diesel? And….

I am generally accredited as liking “orphans” and generally agree with some of your crazy ideas but this is fugly.

    I’m a Ford guy,………but……..

    A. 6.0 LS Swap and what ever auto tranny capable of towing a car on a trailer.
    B. Upgrade suspension and brakes.
    C. Dually rear axle and tub the bed as needed. Maybe add air bags to axle.
Get dually set up from a camper van conversion.
    D. Upgrade rear chassis and add a fifth wheel mount for car trailer.
    E. Go have a good time.
