Ebay Find: Black And Chrome Suits This 1978 Chevy Caprice Coupe Nicely!

Brian can enjoy Buford’s company all he wants. I’ve got nothing against four-doors, or even a four-door B-body, but if I’m going to own one, without question I’d go for another “glasshouse” 1977-1979 coupe…it would be my third, after a 1977 Impala and a 1979 Caprice. I don’t know what it is about the look of the angled back glass on the Caprice/Impala body, but it works. And anyone who knows me well knows that the safest guess for color choice is black and chrome…it’s a classy look, it’s an intimidating look, it’s a timeless look. So when I found this 1978 Caprice sitting on eBay with an at-press-time bid of $6500, I had to sit for a minute and remind myself that I don’t have the money.

Somebody, though, needs to give this black beauty a good home. It’s a loaded-out Landau trim car, so you’re getting the comfort treatment inside, including functioning air conditioning. The running gear is standard 1978 GM fare: 305ci V8, TH350 automatic. That would have to be upgraded…thinking a big-block and a 700-R4 would get it moving. A mixture of 9C1 and aftermarket suspension parts would get the handling and braking sorted, and you’d wind up with a beautiful driver that looks like it would fit in anywhere.

Sweet ride! I would take out my LT1/4L60E/373 rear from my 95 9C1 and plunk it in that black beauty!
