Morning Symphony: Beating On New Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s around the Nurburgring Was Never Mentioned At Career Day

So far, I haven’t worked one single job that would line up with what my guidance counselor told me I’d wind up becoming. To be fair, most of the jobs I’ve had didn’t line up with my expectations, either…but I know for a fact that unless a semi truck was involved, “professional driver” was never going to be in the cards. You just didn’t get that lucky. We might have dreamed about testing ZR-1 Corvettes and Lamborghini Diablos, maybe even being a race car driver of some sort, but when Mr. Greene looked down at you with those glasses on and that sly smile that foretold a rude awakening, as a kid you learned that more than likely you were going to end up sitting in the back end of a cube farm, holding on to your red stapler for what it was worth, planning for the day you could put the desk behind you for good.

The problem is that nobody knows the path you take to wind up with a gig like this: these guys are wringing out two preproduction Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s at the Nurburing Nordschliefe in Germany. The blue car is a manual-trans model, and the red car supposedly has the new ten-speed automatic that is getting the attention of the press. Very well and good, but we don’t care what is backing that supercharged 6.2L V8, so long as we’re the ones who got to stomp on the loud pedal and go racing. There might be a height limitation with the new Camaro…did we say it’s tiny inside already? Because it is…but the yoga needed to wedge into the car would be so worth it, especially once you had that exhaust note ringing off of the Armco barriers. Remember two things, kids: this is only the second-fastest Camaro coming down the pipe, and Mr. Greene and everyone like him were wrong. You can get a job playing with cars all day!
