For most of us, a third-gen F-body isn’t quite the car we were thinking of when it comes to a “classic Camaro”, but for someone who has been saving up their money for their first hot-rod purchase, chances are good that this thirty-year-old F-body is a legitimate classic to them. They didn’t grow up with IROC-Zs on television advertisements, or hearing someone singing about “The Heartbeat of America” on radio ads…many were learning to walk when the F-body was taken around back and put down. For all intents and purposes, this is to a high-school gearhead the equivalent of finding the 1964 Mustang some secretary owned and kept stock and perfect for decades before finally relenting and selling it on.

This Z28 is pretty standard fare for 1987. It’s an automatic car, which means it was rated for 190 horsepower new (if it had been a five-speed car, it would’ve been rated at 215 horsepower) and we are willing to bet that there isn’t much changed outside of the exhaust…those tips probably have a bark that’s more vicious than the engine’s bite. But overall…this thing is mint. The stripes look good, the paint looks decent, the wheels look good, and given everything else, the lack of interior shots doesn’t scare us off quite yet. Frankly, we’d be surprised to find anything more than typical wear and tear or a loose headliner. No T-tops, no hackery that we can see, and more importantly, no reason to start hacking it up. $4,100 will get you a sturdy, drivable platform that will work while you save up some more shiny pennies for a build.
