We Want It: This Weathered Impala SS Is Sleeper Perfection!

We Want It: This Weathered Impala SS Is Sleeper Perfection!

Our buddy Jeff Lee was either trolling us or was just showing off sending us pictures for this particular Impala SS. The first picture showed the big black Chevy sitting in the driveway looking like the perfect portrait of nearly twenty years of hard living parked, complete with prerequisite mid-90’s paint quality. Interesting, but only kind-of.

The next few pictures shut us right up.

Take a good look in that engine bay. Those pipes? Yeah…hooked to a stroked LT-1 with forged internals are two Precision 55mm turbos with ceramic ball bearings. And an air-to-water intercooler. To hell with the paint…this nasty creature is certainly raising an eye or two. Maybe more. According to Jeff, it’s got a 650hp “street” tune and can be pushed to an even 1000hp if provoked. And you thought the only way to make a big car move was to have the word “Hellcat” attached to it. There’s no doubt that the 4L60-E is beefed up to take the abuse, and the 3.73 ring out back helps get this beast up and moving in a damned hurry.

And it’s only the paint that looks worn. The odometer is barely over 20,000 miles, and the interior is perfect. We can’t lie, if we had our hands on this we’d find four friends, pile them in the car and within seconds have them screaming for dear life like a real-life Grand Theft Auto scene. Rumor is this particular car has seen the northern end of 160 mph during testing on the street tune and might push the 200mph barrier on the business tune. And it looks like this…it’s the perfect sleeper! A set of drag radials and this Impala would screw up everyone’s day at the drags.

Reportedly the guy wants to at least repaint it. We beg you, not until you at least take it to the track and royally piss some people off.

Actually, I believe it weighs less then chryslers Abomination: ‘heckkitty’ and definitely costs about ten times less, which equals even more fun!

the passenger side turbo doesnt get an air cleaner? or am i missing something obvious? How tough are the second gen lt-1 blocks and assemblies?

Cool idea.. Hard to believe hp numbers. Still has a MAF sensor, which means you will not put much boost thru it..max about 10.

Hope the engine is built for turbos since these engine have a tendency to push head gaskets very easily when boosted!

There is hardly any room on the passenger side of these car given the size of the body. It looks like a plumbing nightmare!

It does have a forged bottom end and I think it may be stroked. I believe it has an aftermarket computer with speed density not MAF. It was built several years ago and is semi apart with the BOV’s unhooked. The passenger side turbo has a screen over it (photo maybe can’t tell). It was a total Oh BTW thing. I asked him what was up with the Impala when I dropped off my Tahoe for some work Monday. He’s built plenty of turbo, blower and nitrous street and race cars. Most recently a twin turbo GTO. He’s a pretty humble, no BS guy, and old school drag racer/mechanic so I’m not questioning anything. He said he’s gonna put it back up on Craigslist when he has a chance, but $15K was what the guy was asking and when it was built, he spent probably double that.
