Ken Block’s Gymkhana Eight: A Rally Fiesta In The Middle East

Ken Block’s Gymkhana Eight: A Rally Fiesta In The Middle East

For the eighth Gymkhana film, Ken Block had to do something dramatically different. We’ve seen his repertoire of stunts, we have seen him in Subarus and Fords, and we are all very well versed with his “Hoonicorn” Mustang, the 845 horsepower, all-wheel-drive beast that it is. This time around, he’s back in more familiar territory, a Ford Fiesta rally car that features reflective paint, but the location is certainly all-new: Dubai.

Why film in Dubai? Well, when the cops show up to shut down the streets, chances are good that you will see Ferraris, Lamborghinis and similar exotica with the trademark white-and-green paint and the flashing blue lights appear. The roads are new, smooth and wide, the Rub’ al Khali (The Empty Quarter) offers up vastly open territory and more sand than the human mind can comprehend, and of course, the beautiful scenery. That, and nobody over there seems bothered by on-street motorsports, so long as you have let the authorities know what you plan to do. Seriously…try to set up a five-wide race involving four 200 MPH capable super cars and a ballistic little race car on an Interstate in a major metropolitan area in the United States. Never, ever gonna happen!

I was hoping the cheetah would be riding with him.

Still – nice work, and probably a world record for “Most expensive objects put at risk for a drift video.”
