The Lincoln Mark VII LSC is what happens when a car manufacturer remembers that luxury and performance do not have to be separate entities, yet remembers that real people with real dollars buy their cars. What does that mean? Take Bugatti: they make luxurious cars that perform, right? Unless you’re a Middle Eastern oil sheik, good luck affording one. Maybe something more like a Mercedes S-class will fit the bill, then? The base model starts at $96,000. New, this Lincoln LSC sold for about $32,000…correct for inflation, and you’re looking at a semi-approachable $55,000 or so in today’s cash. But if you were a smart and well-sorted gearhead, you wouldn’t be looking at any other car. The Lincoln rides on the Fox chassis…which means Mustang parts…which means the sky is the limit for what you want to do here. Five speed swap? 347 stroker? Suspension bits? Go for it.

This brings up a question, though: the Lincoln is bigger, plusher, and a bit heavier than a Fox Mustang, so why would anyone build one? For those attributes alone in most cases. If a Mustang feels cramped, a Mark VII by comparison will feel fantastic, and the backseat is actually useable in a Lincoln. Or maybe you like the more demure, aggressive but mature look of the Mark VII body. It’s certainly one of FoMoCo’s better offerings of the 1980s and has aged gracefully over the years.
