The Revival, Part 3: The Nearly-Totaled 2001 Ford Super Duty Lives! It’s Been A While, But The Results Speak For Themselves!

The Revival, Part 3: The Nearly-Totaled 2001 Ford Super Duty Lives! It’s Been A While, But The Results Speak For Themselves!

If you aren’t familiar with The Revival Super Duty, or need a quick reminder of just how bad this 2001 Ford was when work started, CLICK HERE for part one and CLICK HERE for part two!

It has been quite a while since we’ve had the ability to check in on the 2001 Super Duty that we first saw as a totaled-out “bro-dozer” about a year ago. To put it mildly, the big Ford was in a bad way when it limped off of the car trailer…the frame was bent, the bed looked like it had been T-boned by a Corolla, and if it weren’t for the fact that the 7.3L PowerStroke had been tuned properly and was running nice and strong, we’d have put money on this Super Duty hitting the scrapyard. But our anonymous friend who purchased the truck loves bringing dead vehicles back to life…so much so, that it’s been only a little less than a year since the last time we saw the Super Duty in any shape or form. Admittedly, our friend doesn’t have that much free time on his hands, and he has plenty of other projects eating up his time, including the Chevy S-10 that he built up for his teenage son, a Suzuki Samurai that is in the middle of a Geo Tracker engine swap, and a big project that I’m not allowed to talk about (just trust me here, folks, it’s freaking awesome!) With all of those projects taking center stage, the F-250 has been sitting idly by in a corner of his shop, waiting it’s turn. We’ve seen his handiwork, and the guy is very, very good with his hands, but we had our doubts on whether or not he could get the Super Duty roadworthy. Well, we were certainly wrong, because after checking the truck out a couple of days ago, we are in love with the results! Check out the photos below:

Most of the interior just needed a good scrubbing, but there were parts that needed some rehab. The steering wheel was sent out to get re-wrapped in OEM leather, and a ton of under-dash wiring was cleaned up, especially around the brake controller and where the truck used to have A-pillar gauges. One thing we’re glad to see remains is the little power-adjuster knob, just next to the column.

The stock headlight assemblies, which were beyond saving, were ditched in favor of a set of 2007 full-clear assemblies. To fit these in, a lot of trimming had to take place in the headlight bucket area…these were certainly not bolt-ins.

Crunched no more! After attempting to replace panels on the stock bed, it was finally ditched in lieu of a replacement bed that was straight, but featured a cut-through for a bed-mounted hitch. All of the paint was sprayed in his shed throughout the late spring and early summer.

The KMS wheels were thrown in the scrap pile for these Vision wheels. Total price for a set of four wheels and Cooper tires: less than $200. We’re still trying to figure out how this guy finds deals like that!

The straightened frame, replacement rear axle and suspension components were coated in anti-rust paint, and the rear axle currently sits on the 1-ton blocks, which might be removed in favor of the 3/4 ton system. Blistien shocks are all around, as are new brake lines.

The most time-consuming part of the Ford’s rebirth has been going through and cleaning up all of the hacked-in wiring. This is the trailer electrical system that came with the truck, and it’s one of the less-hacked pieces that was ripped out. There had to have been at least three miles’ worth of electrical tape used over this Super Duty’s lifetime.

It isn’t 100% finished, but it is drivable! As of writing, the bed had to be aligned and torqued down, a bumper needs to be found, the driver’s side rear door has to be repainted due to a shop accident that scratched up the fresh paint, and the emblems put back on…all of which should take the owner “about a week or so.” Compared to where it was when it first appeared, it’s come a hell of a long way.

That will be a good looking truck once all the final work is completed. I like the owner’s idea of taking a salvage title vehicle and giving it a new life.

Bro-truck to work truck, a real-life story of redemption.
Your friend/workspace landlord does impressive work.

Where did he send the wheel to get recovered? I hate wheel covers and they go to pot quick in the desert sun.
    Nice work.

Thanks for the link, sounds like he sent it somewhere that they installed it as well? I have had mixed success with Installing them myself
