Watching This Explorer Crawl Through Box Canyon In Arizona Is Awesome – Off-Road Family Wagons Rule!

First-generation Ford Explorers make killer trail rigs. They’re comfortable, they have room, and since they’re Ranger-based, they can take a ton of off-road parts to become whatever you want it to be, from a V8-swapped mud truck to a flexible crawler. This blacked-out rig went with the crawler idea, and you can see it working out nicely on a trail in Box Canyon, Arizona. This 1991 four-door has a four-inch suspension lift and a three-inch body lift, a locked-up Dana 44 out back and 35″ BF Goodrich Mud Terrains doing the dirty work. The 4.0L V6 has enough grunt to move the truck along, and the best part of all of it is that on the whole, putting an Explorer together in a similar fashion can be done rather cheaply, and you now have the bonus of an excellent spare vehicle. Take it camping, take it to the lake, and take the kids to school in the morning. Everybody wins.
