Morning Symphony: This Supercharged V6 Dodge Charger Brings You The Worrying Sounds Of Silence!

Morning Symphony: This Supercharged V6 Dodge Charger Brings You The Worrying Sounds Of Silence!

Think about this: V6 engines are now putting out what V8s struggled to bring to the table as recently as the early 2000s. Proof: The LGX V6 in the Chevrolet Camaro is advertised at 335 horsepower, and from our experiences behind the wheel, might be the best engine choice for the car. Ford’s 3.5L turbo V6 has enough grunt to bark gears in a Ford Expedition…again, we know first-hand. The days of saying “except a Buick six” are over…and in many cases, going for two less cylinders just makes more sense overall. Except for one…the Pentastar, FCA’s 3.6L mill. In the Avenger/200 mid-size cars, it was the one bright beacon in an otherwise absolutely craptacular pile of an automobile, turning them into a hidden sleeper. In the heavier LX cars, however, the Pentastar tends to be overlooked. Unlike the LGX or the EcoBoost mills, it’s still suffering from the “rental car” stigma of buying the base engine.

Look at the Dodge Charger on the rollers. Looks like every other one you’ve seen at an airport rental company’s fleet, doesn’t it? Of course it does…and that’s what makes the dyno chart on this car so nada. The only modifications are to the lump underneath the hood. This was the first supercharged 3.6L supercharged Dodge Charger that RIPP Superchargers put together for testing purposes. There’s no whine, no surging, no nothing that gives away what this Charger is all about. And if you keep the hood shut like a proper racer would, there isn’t anything to give it away…you’re just a weekend enthusiast who decided to take the family sedan out on the track for a bit of fun. Which should make the inevitable yowling of the defeated that much sweeter to hear…

    That is EVIL!

Add a “No, it ain’t got a Hemi” bumper sticker for maximum effect.

Wasn’t even sure if it was running or that was the dyno room fans at the beginning of the video. Camera pans out…oh he’s making a pull! Definitely digging it!
