Mighty Mouse! This 1960 Lloyd Is A Strage But Neat Little Track Bomber That Is Up For Sale!

What does a bad idea look like? Ok, besides a $500 Craigslist car that “runs and drives”. How about taking a car that came with two-digit horsepower, turning it into a straight-axle car, shoehorning in a supercharged small-block V8 because what says “upgrade” like adding six additional cylinders to the count, and turning it loose on the general population? If you’re reading this and aren’t grinning from ear to ear at the prospect of seeing this little 1960 Lloyd Alexander TS rolling through a neighborhood setting off car alarms and scaring the squirrels right back up into the trees, then…what are you doing here?

“Outcast” is just about right when it comes to describing the Lloyd. Lloyd Motoren Werke GmbH operated from 1950 to 1963 and made small cars that had small (250cc and under) engines that didn’t require a new exam for a driver’s license in Germany. The little two-stroke machines sold well enough as far as production was concerned (The Lloyd 600 and Alexander series, effectively the same car, moved a little over 170,000 units between 1958-1961) but the company floundered and that was that. Amazingly, one car from a company few remember has not only survived, but is living with this monster transformation.

When new, the Lloyd would have had a 596cc two-stroke mill that made, depending on trim level, either 19 or 25 horsepower. Any guesses on what that Chevrolet 350 is producing? That engine would make a 1978 Caprice feel peppy…imagine what it’s like to mash the long pedal in this little barn burner!

  1. Chevy Hatin\\\' Mad Geordie

How the builder managed to make everything about this swap look weirdly in proportion is beyond me!

Sell the Chevy, put in a Hemi and go out hunting Willys coupes – after a coat of satin black primer naturally…
