This Is Bonneville: Another Awesome “Half A Motor” – This Time It Is A Windsor Ford!

Yesterday we showed you a bitchin’ “half a hemi” that was making a Bonneville lakester fly down the salt with aplomb. We reveled in the fact that the team was using a full V8 hemi block and only using half a head. Well, guess what we found under the hood of a damned Nissan on the salt? How about a half Ford Windsor V8! The McMeekin Brothers have long been known as creative dudes who have horned some wild engines under the hood of this little 240. The car has had everything from the current “half a Windsor” to a Buick straight eight in it. I’ve seen this car at ECTA meets and I got to see it run here on the salt, its four cylinder engine bellowing down the course the entire way.

This year on the salt the McMeekin brothers were tying up loose ends and planned to go out of the land speed racing world in style and with a record…or a bunch of records. Unfortunately, the engine had other plans and it was in the process of expiring on the last run the team made. They never got rolling fast enough fora record (the plan was to go 175 to qualify and then do the same on the backup pass) and they’re heading home with a wounded beast.

Like the Hemi we showed you yesterday this engine is extremely well done, looks finished, and sounded unlike anything else in the expanse of Bonneville. We’re saddened about the engine’s current condition but it will make a great by for the guy who wants to do a rebuild and start with a fresh core.
