Rough Start: This Shortened 1993 Plymouth Voyager Is For The Minimalist!

Rough Start: This Shortened 1993 Plymouth Voyager Is For The Minimalist!

You can’t knock Chrysler’s minivans for what they were. When they appeared in 1984, they proved to be the right kind of vehicle at the moment and undoubtedly pulled Chrysler from the brink and into the black. But here’s the question worth asking: what does a Chrysler Corporation minivan, in this case a second-generation Plymouth Voyager, offer to a reader of BangShift? Well, if it’s nice enough, it’s a Craigslist-find family mover at best, and at the worst, it’s a covered parts hauler that will suffer with enough weight loaded in. It’s a minivan, dude, and a front-driver at that. Who in their right mind would want one? Hold on, let’s try that again…who in their right mind would want a shortened one?

Yeah, you’re seeing this right: this is a shortened 3.3L powered Plymouth Voyager that is up for sale. It fits into the Rough Start budget with room to spare, but is it really worth it? It looks kind of like a Dodge Aries K with a roof extension from the photos (not exactly far off from reality, to be fair) and the strange tube-grille front end and light assemblies that we think were resourced from a plow would have to be ditched in favor of stock units, but could it be purposeful? Maybe, if you welded in a brace wall behind the front seats and turned the back compartment into a cargo hold of sorts. But would you bother? Depends…it would get better mileage than a pickup or full-size van…

Front end has a kind of custom mini truck vibe, in a good way.

As for what use one could have for it… hmmm. It does look like it’s about the perfect size to tote around one complete engine. Still a bit more silly than useful though.
