Celebrity Car Death Match: Steve McQueen’s Bullitt Mustang VS James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5!

Celebrity Car Death Match: Steve McQueen’s Bullitt Mustang VS James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5!

Yesterday two cool Jeep trucks battled it out but today we have literal cinematic titans attacking one another. Today is the ultra classic British cool versus American bad ass cool. But before we get into all that, let’s check the tale of the tape from yesterday:

[box_dark]The Jeep Gladiator from Tremors VS The J10 from Twister

Tremors Gladiator DEFEATS the Twister J10

Epic landslide win. Shame about the J10 being fed to the huge worms. [/box_dark]

Today’s battle is nearly beyond description. Two insanely well known cars, two equally cool dudes, and two true icons. We’re going to start with Steve McQueen’s highland green 1968 Mustang fastback. Powered by a 390 and a 4-speed, the two movie cars were modified by Max Balchowski in the suspension department and had some unique exterior touches, like the blacked out grill and de-badging. Those changes were not made by Ford, but rather by the movie guys to get the car looking “right” for McQueen’s character. There were two cars movie used on the movie set, one had a roll bar and the other did not. Reportedly, both were just about torn to shreds during the jump scenes when McQueen was chasing the evil black Charger. The real movie magic came in the form of the Mustang essentially out running the Charger. While the 390/4-speed Mustangs were respectable performers, it would not have stood a chance on the street against the Charger in stock form. Hey, suspension of belief is part of the movies and we’d still take a knock off of that car any day of the week! When we think of McQueen we think of him in this car during that famous moment when he appears in the rear view of the bad guys rolling down the road in the Charger. Cool to the bone!

Sure this car is more debonaire and fufu than the Bullitt Mustang, but is there are car more associated with James Bond than the Aston Martin DB5? It first appeared in the 1964 film Goldfinger and has been featured in tons of Bond films. In fact, the car was even a major part of the recent Sky Fall film where Bond used it to wipe out some bad guys before it was destroyed by said bad guys. If you have seen the movie you can see Bond get really pissed when they blow up his car. It is pretty cool. The DB5s used in the movies were of course fitted with stuff like guns, ejection seats, and other gadgets by the brilliant Q. The engine was a four liter inline six, backed up by a four or five speed stick depending on which transmission you chose. The car is stunningly beautiful and carries a timeless shape and of course it has the famed Aston Martin design language in the front end which still is used to this day in a modernized form. It is pretty much impossible to watch an old James Bond movie with Sean Connery playing the lead and not want to be him! From the cool cars to the gadgets, to the bevy of beauties, Bond had it all going on in spades.

THIS IS A TRUE BATTLE OF ICONS!! WHICH SHOULD SURVIVE THIS DEATH MATCH? THE CLASSIC DB5 OR THE MUSTANG OF STEVE MCQUEEN! VOTE BELOW BY COMMENTING!!!

If I was into fish eggs, the DB5 would be my choice but c’mon eating fish eggs! Bullitt car for me!

    Mustang…

Lohnes, you just fed an Aston Martin to a pack of hungry wolves…. this might get ugly.

I love McQueen’s Ferd Muskox and all ….. but really … the Bullitt Mustangs great and all but they’re becoming a dime a dozen what with all the replicas and tribute cars these days …. and ….. errr …. that DB5 is something else entirely … so

    Aston Martin DB5 … hands down !

Come on, this is a DEATH MATCH!
Machine Gun, Missiles, Flame Throwers and Mines beat the tar outta a 390, 4-speed and Pistol.

all those extra toys and gadgets still can’t help connery outcool mcqueen. mustang.

Bond might’ve had all kinds of gadgetry and got more poon than a toilet seat but it’s McQueen’s Bullitt all the way for me.
Cheeseburgers & fries over fish n chips.

That’s not just any Mustang……..McQueen was driving.
    He was da man.

    Austin Martin. No question.

A more fair apples/apples death match would have been Elanore from Gone in 60 seconds vs. Bullit. They are both mustangs.

Let me ask you this……How many times have you hit the rewind button to watch the Aston Martin drive down the road again? Anybody? Thats what I thought.

Mustang. C’mon, how lame and ghey (as my kids would say) are James Bond movies anyway? Yes, DB5 looks nice – in real terms though they’d probably labour to put 100 hp through the back wheels. Yes, impressive maybe in England in 1965 but pretty friggin lame against pretty well any Mustang….

James Bond and the DB5 were movie fantasy cool-

Frank Bullitt (like Steve McQueen) and the GT Mustang were real life cool-

Hands down, McQueen & the Mustang win –

Although James Bonds Aston is cool, I don’t think it can hold a candle to Steve McQueen’s ’68 Mustang fastback, both in appearance and “RAW” horsepower! To me, McQueen’s ’68 fastback Mustang is a much superior vehicle in, virtually, every way imaginable!
