Cool Shop Tool: Adamstand Work Benches

Cool Shop Tool: Adamstand Work Benches

Joe Adams is the creator and inventor of the Adamstand Work Bench. When we first learned about the neato piece of shop equipment we weren’t really sure as to what the heck we were looking at. Adams hooked us up with a bunch of info on the pieces and they really look like something that could boost the usable space and efficiency of a shop, both for the hobbist and the professional wrencher.

The stands are designed to handle all kinds of different fixtures and attachments that range from grinder and vices to pieces designed to hold body panels, engines, transmissions, etc.

Adams is hard at work on plans to mass market the Adamstand and show the world that every shop needs ones of these babies in it! For now, Adams is selling blueprints for the reasonable cost of $29.95 on PayPal. Once you have the plans in your hand you can build your own stand or farm out the work to your local welder/metal fab guy. With the plans come directions on how to apply the stand for max efficiency in your home or business. Adams believes that there are huge savings to be had in shops where billable hours are at a premium and mechanics walking around, hunting for tools hurt the business.

The stand has earned the endorsement of Don Garlits. He’s had one in his museum for 20 years! The stand is shown in the engine room adjacent to the Smokey Yunick exhibit. Outside of Don Garlits, Hot Rod Magazine, Super Ford, Mustang Monthly, Tool and Equipment News, as well as Circle Track have all endorsed the product as a great and helpful piece of shop equipment.

Here are some photos an info the the Adamstand’s many uses and configurations:

We’ve
folded back up the traditional workbench top and removed the spanable
work top, rehanging it on the wall, and have replaced it with four
Adamstand work trays-two on each floor-mounted unit. Although it appears
from the camera’s angle to fill the area, understand that both these
top assemblies spin 360 degrees on the center axis, where they plug into
the main body of each workbench. You simply walk up to a tray and push
it while walking through the area and it spins out of the way with ease,
like a turnstile. Yet when you are directly positioned in front of the
engine compartment, it allows you 6 square feet of bench space within
arms’ reach without moving a step. These trays can be set up with
magnetic rails and holsters for holding air tools and other hangable
items.  Note the bench mounts on the traditional work bench.
