Craigslist Find: This 1970 GMC Astro Is Calling SOMEONE’s Name…

Craigslist Find: This 1970 GMC Astro Is Calling SOMEONE’s Name…

This beauty of a GMC Astro 95 crossed our radar and you-know-who is trying his best to ignore it and instead is burying himself under his tow truck under the premise of “fixing his brakes”…so let’s take a closer look at it, shall we?

I can’t recall seeing a nicer Astro 95 outside of watching older movies. Replacing the “crackerbox” trucks in 1968, these Class 8 trucks were fitted with a few engine options. Our beauty here is running a 318 Detroit Diesel that has recently been refreshed, backed by a 13-speed. The power is put down by all-new rubber. The paint looks fresh, the interior is absolutely clean, and there is a new wet kit and headache rack.

For $6500, any tractor that runs is a good deal. For a clean classic like this one, it’s a steal. But don’t mention that out loud…Lohnes is having enough of a time ignoring trucks as it is.

umm .. I dunno. I’m as big a fan of the 318 / 13 speed, but my right ear still rings to this day. Cab-overs … ‘specially the Astro … ask the George Smith Trucking guys what was like to drive in a snowmobile suit cuz couldn’t get enough heat in the cab. I’m sure the GIANT windshields are great green houses in the summer too.
I’ll pass, and thankfully this one doesn’t know my name.

Yep. Drove one of those babies in 1975-76 for my uncle as a garbage truck hauling 36 yard roll off bins full of every and anything! had a 6-71 Detroit with a 10 speed Road Ranger. Fun to zip through the gears on the streets of L.A.!

My wrecker I run every day is a 1973 L9000 ford with a 318 and 13 speed. I have 5 inch duals on it and it’s a screamer out the exhaust. Also still have my grandpa’s 1974 astro he bought new with a 318 but has been changed to a 350 Detroit just a 318 with a turbo on top of the blower.

Honest Honey, diesel is less expensive than gas in the long run. What do you mean where am I going to park it?
