We have always though Unimogs were cool. With ultra flexible gearing, extreme ground clearance, tractor like simplicity and flexibility, plus a go anywhere attitude that won’t quit, they have been a super popular platform for off roaders the world around. Some models of Unimogs actually offer two or three driving positions! Yep, slide the whole control console from the left to the center or to the right. “Hey dude, it’s your turn to drive!” LOL Their recovery equipment is second to none, as they include ultra strong hydraulic and PTO driven winches, and you can add any attachment to them from a brush hog to a combine to a back hoe. And anything else you can imagine of course. They literally are a tractor that someone forgot to tell was a truck. Oh, and their made by Mercedes, the guys that invented the car.
Since they are one of the most flexible off highway machines you’ll find, they are of course have a strong military history as well. This particular Unimog is a 1979 416/U1100L that has a “radio box” on it. The radio box was a body that was super strong and outfitted as a mobile radio command center. This is exactly what we need as BangShift’s LIVE broadcast headquarters.
Powered by the venerable OM352 non-turbo Diesel engine, this one isn’t going to win any drag races, but it is very reliable and efficient. It has only 32,000 miles, 2450 hours on the engine, and despite the low power will climb anything thanks to great gearing. This one happens to have an aftermarket winch on it which, while slightly disappointing, shouldn’t be a problem since it’s a 15,000 lb Warn. Yeah, that’s good.
Oh, we’d gut the thing and make it into the coolest Unimog Motorhome ever. Can someone lone us $23,000?

They are geared so low and painfully slow on the highway, but still cool.
