Sure, we normally find things of a weird of dubious nature on Craigslist to share with you but this time, thanks to reader Dave Smithson, we have something that seems to be 100% legit and totally amazing. The ad for the car pictured below is very, very short. It consists of the following line –
Original Batmobile Body Project Car 80% done. 460 ford mounted on mark 5 chasis. Serious buyers only, no flakes, lowballers or lookie Loos wanted.
At first, we were doing what you are doing right now. “Original Batmobile body?!” then we spent some time actually looking at the not too great photos and came to the conclusion that the guy seems to be telling the truth. Seriously, look at the body and the quality of it and then tell us that someone just hacked that thing together in their backyard shed or something. Then we found a company called Fiberglass Freaks that is licensed to produce Batmobile replicas and they have several different models all based on the looks of the original car. Perhaps this is one of their bodies? Also we may have mistaken the “original” part of the ad as a claim that this was one of the first cars built instead of it referencing the styling of the car being of the first Batmobile to gain fame. No matter what the guy means, he is still asking over $42,000 for this car. The body is mounted on a Lincoln Mk V chassis and uses a 460ci Ford BB for power.
Update: We found a listing from 2012 showing this car for sale and that listing stated that the body was ‘glass. The original Batmobiles were steel bodies so this is definitely a re-pop and it is definitely priced in a place where no one seems interested. If something sits for multiple years, that is usually an indication that your price may be a little steep. Our opinion.

I think he may have been sniffing yellow kryptonite.. he’s WAY overpriced for something with not much demand.. and a long way from being finished. And would YOU drive it down the street??
When are these people going to under stand that a reproduction will never bring the (BIG) money.I watched one of the steel ones go to the auction (Barris Built) That was over the top. This would make a good parade car or for fundraising, But not for daily driving unless you wear blue tights and have a silk cape.
