Rough Start: This Lincoln Will Be Waiting For You In Mobile

Rough Start: This Lincoln Will Be Waiting For You In Mobile

I’ve been to Mobile, Alabama once. I wasn’t supposed to go out of the hotel that night, but I did…walked about a mile, found a nice jazz joint with some killer food and soaked up the atmosphere deep into the night, which is really the only way to explore a place. Had I been able to drive around, there’s no doubt that this Lincoln would be the way to go.

Yes, I have a kick for the 1972-1976 Lincoln Mark IV’s, especially the small bumper cars. I can’t explain why I love the big barges as much as I do, I just know that it’s one of those cars that underscored luxury for me as a kid. This particular Mark, a ’73, has the 5 mph bumper, but has the small rear bumper. A quick trip to a junkyard that still has older cars should rectify that nose nicely. The car has some rough edges, including a couple small touches of rust and interior wear, but it’s complete, it’s a runner and driver, and for the purposes of being a Rough Start, would need nothing to get it to driver status past a typical tune-up for the entry price of $2500. The other $2500 of the budget could clean some things up, or get the 460 some extra power. Either way, this one is a good find.

I’ve always loved these. My brother had one when I was a kid, had a soft spot for them ever since. I one of these would make a pretty bitchen pro touring style ride.

The video/PC game Driv3r (Driver 3) had one of these Lincolns in it, and I used to love powersliding it around Miami and bombing through dirt road construction sites.

whats the saying about the way to a mans heart is thru is stomach…In my case it is with 70’s land yachts…I dig these…way more than I should.

I had one years ago. Silver with cranberry red interior,1973 so it still had decent bumpers. Nice driver, but not as cool looking as the more sinister 69-71 Mark III. A buddy of mine was obsessed with putting a 4 speed stick behind the 460 in one of these. Don’t think it ever happened but it was a cool idea.
