A massive sinkhole has swallowed part of the infield at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which is slated to host a NASCAR race on October 16th. An old drainage pipe, buried some 35 feet below the surface, broke, and over time created the condition for a sinkhole to open up. This hole is a big one, measuring 20 feet wide, 100 feet long, and 35 feet deep.
Track officials are confident the problem will be squared away for race day on October 16th. From the photos we saw, the actual race track doesn’t not appear to be affected by the issue, but spectator and motorhome parking probably were in the line of fire in this situation.
