eBay Find: A Freaking Awesome 1977 Chevette Pro Street Car With Turbo (and nitrous) Poncho Super Duty 4 Power!

Sweet mother of awesome, we were tipped off to this car by about 30 of you guys and girls out there and we know why. This 1977 Chevette is 100-shades of awesome. The paint is nice, stance is pro street perfect, interior is passable, and the engine is not at all what you’d expect. The flat hood is a giveaway that the engine is not the typical pro street mill.  Normally we’re all about small car, big motor around here but in this case it is small car and bad ass small motor. This little Chevette is powered by a turbocharged and nitrous assisted Pontiac SD4 (Super Duty 4) ‘banger. The seller claims 500hp with just the turbo and 800hp @8,500 RPM with the nitrous on the dyno. That’s out of about 160ci and we believe it. This little engines are gnarly and were used in lots of drag cars and in several circle and road racing series in the 1980s and 1990s. They are bad to the bone and not normally seen on the street.

We’d roll in this thing without thinking twice and this isn’t the only Chevette you’ll be hearing about on BS this week. There was one alot more famous than this with a big ol’ Caddy engine in it that made quite the splash in Hot Rod Magazine. The builder of that iconic ride will be spilling the beans right here on our electronic pages.

We could ramble on about this thing all day but we’ll tell you to scroll down to see the photos and then CONTINUE TO THE EBAY LINK WHICH HAS 58 PHOTOS IN IT!!!

Interesting find – it’s got me scrambling to figure out what, exactly, the Super Duty 4 is, and if it would hold up to commuter duty as well.

      it’s a 2.7L 270hp 4 cylinder (or a 3.2L 330hp 4 cylinder)
it drove the real Indy 500 Pontiac Fiero Pace Cars.

there was even a 16v version which made about 400hp

WOW – Love it – only thing I would change is narrowed A-arms to tuck the front wheels under the fenders….

wow. I owned a four door, looked just like it. that was a great choice four the four banger hot rod, as that chassis is the last of actual fuel air flowing even on the tiny original. My own was quite fun.

wow, its been a looooong timke since anyone could claim “brand new” Cragar Super Tricks…..
