Is this Custom 1966 Mustang Wagon Cool or Horrendous?

Is this Custom 1966 Mustang Wagon Cool or Horrendous?

We need your help. After finding this 1966 Mustang wagon kustom on eBay we stared at the photos from every angle and came away stumped. Our immediate reaction was one of scorn and ridicule, but the more we looked, the more we kind of appreciated everything that went into building this car and how it may not be so bad after all. Unlike the complete disaster of a custom Firebird we showed you earlier this week, the Mustang appears to be finished, with respect to the body anyway, at a high level. Yes, the wiring looks like a spaghetti factory exploded, but the exterior of the thing was definitely completed by someone with some real skills.

The way that the rear fenders are flared out and the big scallops they have in them are not the work of a backyard hack. As the eBay ad says, the car was built by “Jack Fett”. Some quick research showed us that Fett was a guy from NJ known for building kustoms for decades. That at least proved our theory that this was not some bondo bastard and there was some legit metal work performed to make the shapes you see forming the car.

Don’t get us wrong, this thing is weird to the 10th power, but is it good weird or bad weird? You tell us!

(This car has apparently been for sale on eBay and other places for more than a year….maybe that answers our question)

Looks like something that should be on ad for the potential of Bondo. It must have taken alot of work however and is very unique.

It seems the more pictures I saw, the worse it gets.

First picture – “I’m not sure I like the plunging side scallops, but other than that, it’s not bad…”

Second picture – “It would look better if that shape around the taillights was more angular…”

    Third picture – Blech!

I often say “just because you CAN do something, doesn’t mean you SHOULD do something”. Whoever buys this purchases a can of worms.

NOPE! I really wanted to find a way to like this thing as I read the intro, but the balance of the photos bring the inescapable conclusion: I wouldn’t be caught dead in it. Or more to the point, would I roll into Donut Derelicts early on a Sat morning? No way. (see Donut’s photo spread to get sense of huge varaity of stuff that shows up there and this still would be worse than brown stains on the back of your shorts.

Looks like a rejected concept barn find discovered by a redneck during the 1980’s and restored with a budget of food stamps.

Was kinda sorta leaning towards appreciating all the hard work and giving credit for the effort… then I saw the multi-barrel machine gun headlights… Yuk !!! Paint it camo and put it in the next low budget Death Race sequel

I can appreciate the time, work, & skill that it took to do this. However my thought it more that the front half and rear half of the car don’t really go together. If you cover the first shot, from the a-pillar/wing window forward it’s not bad. From the same point rearward isn’t bad. Together it a mish-mash.

In reference to a previous article, I stand corrected. A 1976 T-Bird looks badass next to this.

If I focus on the details, I can actually say “that’s kinda neat” occasionally. Then I look at the whole car and want to gouge my eyes out with a spork.

When I first looked at the photos, I thought ” Look, someone built a replica of a Volvo P1800 wagon out of a Mustang”.
Further, they spent a hell of a lot of money and effort to do it.
The obvious question is why not just get the Volvo if that is what appeals to you.
    Fail for that reason.
Otherwise, I almost kinda like it.

Somebody needs to love these BangShift misfit vehicles.
    It’s not their fault.
It’s the mad “crazings” and ramblings of the creators and owners.

    This was a Mustang,once.
    The paint is lousy.
It needs more tapered tail ends, like from a Duster or a Demon.
Back half it , like from an Oldsmobile wagon.
    This is wrong.
    Gullwing doors.
A rear valance panel from a Mako Shark or another custom Corvette thing-goin’-on.
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Let ‘s move on from here.Quickly.
    It needs a working hatch.
    Go.Now.

Horrendous to the power of 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 (etc.)
