Sleeper Find: A Stocking Looking 1980 Caprice Packing An L88 Headed Big Block Engine!

Sleeper Find: A Stocking Looking 1980 Caprice Packing An L88 Headed Big Block Engine!

All hall the king of the Caprice sleepers! This 1980 Caprice coupe is for sale in Corinth, Mississippi and it plays the role perfectly. Equipped with the stock interior, right down to a granny wrapped steering wheel, white wall tires with the weenie wire hubcaps, air conditioning, and an L88 or L89 headed rat motor, this is the perfect weapon for luring unsuspecting victims in and laying one on ’em. Assuming that you can get any semblance of traction out of the way too skinny tires.

I’m impressed at the quality of the engine install. It looks factory in there and the builder didn’t go and cut out the AC box and all of the other stuff on that side of the firewall that most guys who swap a BBC into these cars do. It is proof that a fat block will slide right on in and not require any kind of major surgery. In the long term plans for our own Project Buford T Justice, I have been mentally wrasslin’ with whether an aluminum headed big block or an LS engine would be the best way to go. I’m in no rush to ditch the current mouse motor, but bench racing is bench racing and this awesome car is helping to influence my decision!

Anyway, scroll down, check out the photos and then hit the link for the CL ad to see the rest of the car and more photos. As far as we’re concerned, this thing rules the school! Also, those cylinder heads are worth some major league bucks!

Thanks to Jeff Lee for the tip on this heavy Chevy!

Yeah, that’s a nice lookin’ Caprice.

‘Wonder if it would be “smoggable” in states like CA.

‘Think maybe there’s a 427 SOHC or Boss 429 in the Edsel next to it?

“Sleeper Find: A Stocking Looking…” huh? What’s a “stocking looking”? Are you guys so eager to post stuff that you don’t read what you’ve just typed?

Stock looking me it looks like it just came from the factory, or “unmodified”
      I dig this bitching machine

The original add stated that this had been (at one time) an executive ride for George Barber of Barber Motorsports Park
