We have professed our love for old cab over trucks many, many, many times here at BangShift. We have posted dozens of them over the years, actively searched them on eBay for fun, and been poked and prodded by readers to buy one of our own. Many of the trucks have have found were cool but none of them hold a candle to this monster project that is for sale in a state of roughly 75% completion. The seller claims that they have receipts totaling more than $290,000 for this truck as it sits in the photos. Frankly when you start looking at the truck you’ll believe them like we do. Every inch of this thing is either new, custom built, rebuilt, or touched in some other way. Like we said in the title, this is the mother of all COE trucks and someone needs to buy it so the original owner’s vision can get seen through.
To break down what you are looking at here, we have a 1950 Chevy COE cab that has been stretched with an additional four doors and a raised roof. The chassis is a 1988 GMC Topkick 6500 which is powered by a rebuilt Caterpillar 3208 motor. The seller claims that the engine was sent to a Cat dealer and they tore it all the way down and stuck it all back together. That engine is backed by an automatic transmission. Currently the cab is not affixed to the chassis but by looking at the photos, it has been mocked into place and seems to fit like a glove. The interior is to include four nice air ride seats for the driver and passengers.
So what was this thing designed to do? How about pull anything you need it to! There’s a 30,000lb rated gooseneck plate that is also on its own air ride system, which is pretty cool. There’s also a standard receiver style hitch back there if you wanted to pull some standard issue small stuff around. The wheels are classic 22.5″ Alcoa pieces like you’d find on millions of trucks around the country, and there are mondo super single Goodyear tires out back.
The custom and massive front bumper with integrated lights and the (for lack of a better term) custom lower body all the way around the truck seems to be exceptionally well done. Ingress and egress from the cab looks like it won’t be too bad because the body is so low, the steps to climb up won’t require a rope ladder to climb up. The photos detail the level of fabrication and finish this truck has and both of those facets are literally world class…for a vehicle that is in a class all by itself.
The photos below and the massive collection of photos included in the ad (along with the Q&A section with the seller) is fantastic, you really need to hit the link to see it all. This truck will be a huge show stopper when it is finished. Hopefully someone we know has the cashola (and it will take a LOT of cashola) to purchase the truck and spend the estimated $50,000 to $75,000 needed to finish it. Apparently the seller is unable to finish the project due to a forced early retirement or some sort of cash flow change. The mother of all COE trucks needs a home!

A truck’s truck!…all GM
g . m. don’t own caterpillar–so it’s not all gm
Since it’s sitting in a hanger….. I think that means they own a second house. Yeah, I’d sell the extra house and keep / finish the truck.
If I had the coin to finish it….I would switch it to Detroit power. Love to see that finished
I’m lovin’ this thing
it would be better if it had a stick

Little underpowered pushing all that weight around plus whatever you tow
Get rid of the little non turbo boat anchor…
I wonder how much it weights, or more important, what will it weigh finished.
That 3408 ain’t no weak suck. I’d drive it.
A 3208 might have been my last choice on engines. Other than that, I don’t much care for this truck. Just my opinion.
Sold 55k A gift ,,,at least to the wealthy Beautiful vehicle
Bad chassi choice, I’m no fan of the topkick chassi especially with disc brakes. They just aren’t truck enough.
i wouldn’t mind having this
