eBay Find: An 8-Second AMX That’s AMC From Bumper to Bumper!

eBay Find: An 8-Second AMX That’s AMC From Bumper to Bumper!

At the drag strip on any given weekend, you’ll see a handful of fast cars that appear to be truly unique. Maybe there’s a Duster running into to the 9s with 340 call outs on the rear quarters. More often than not, you’ll see anything but a 340 under the hood. That’s why we geek out when we find a car like this AMX, which has gone into the 8.80s and carries AMC power under the hood. There is something inherently cool about doing it the hard way, and running an AMC 421ci stroker and not a mouse or rat motor under the hood is the hard way.

The car was part of a “final 16” on the late Pinks: All Out television show, so you may have seen it before. The cage is certified down to 8.50s, it uses a steel body with aluminum floor and firewall along with ‘glass bumpers. hood, and deck lid. The engine is based off of an AMC block (we’re guessing a 401) and uses Herman Lewis cylinder heads and intake manifold and if that doesn’t mean anything to you, start reading up on Herman Lewis!

The transmission is not an AMC part. Instead a Turbo 400 is used and it is stuff with a host of hardcore parts like a 5500 stall, 8in diameter Winters converter. A 1050CFM Dominator tops the engine and sits just above a NX plate nitrous system. Hitting the button on the nitrous system at the 200hp level has resulted in a best ET of 8.81@156mph. The seller claims the the car is normally tuned up to run 9.1s with a 150hp shot.

The best part? The car is street legal, registered, insured, and regularly driven! If you want one of the baddest AMC products in the country, look no further! Oh, and bring $25K.

its an awesome car, but id say the th400 disqualifies it from being amc from “bumper to bumper” a transmission is a pretty major part of the car……

AMC’s may have not used the TH400, but Jeeps with AMC power did.

I still qualify it as an AMC since the powerplant and body match. Does my Riviera not count as a Buick anymore since I’ll be running a 4L80E?
