eBay Find: Killer Competition Coupe

Competiton Coupes were an interesting breed back when that class was run at drag strips across America. Boiled down, there were basically front engine dragsters with heavily hacked up coupe bodies lowered over the rear section of the chassis. In fact, many old school car clubs would run the same car as both a dragster and a Comp Coupe at the same race to get multiple drivers involved.

One of the most famous competition coupes was run by “Flamin'” Frank Pedregon, father of the Pedregon brothers who have been racing Funny Cars with success for the last twenty years in the NHRA show.

This car we found on eBay is a neat one. We think that’s a Fiat Topolino body hanging off the back of the advertised original 1960’s chassis (with updated rollcage) but we’re not 100% sure. The guy selling the car admits that the chassis is not certified, although he does say that it will run 150 mph in the quarter mile, which would require a chassis tag so we’re not too sure. We do know that the price is still good even if some bars would need to be switched to get the car a proper chassis tag.

Grabbing this car, as is all you’d need is some fuel and the intestinal fortitude to sit in that little ‘glass coffin and hammer the loud pedal. You can buy it turn key for $8,000. That’s a smokin’ deal in our opinion.
