Ebay Find: Killer Original Mickey Thompson FE Ford Cross Ram Intake

Ebay Find: Killer Original Mickey Thompson FE Ford Cross Ram Intake

We are suckers for killer old speed parts, and usually check them out at the Long Beach Swap Meet here in SoCal, but the stuff that is available on Ebay nowadays is amazing. This one here is a prime example and would be the perfect topper to a 427 powered period correct 1969 Mustang drag car. According to the ad all the holes are perfect on this one and it has no corrosion which means it probably spent some time on a racecar before ending up on a shelf somewhere. The outside is even perfect and has never been blasted.

At a dollar shy of $1700 it’s way out of our price range, but it sure makes us drool. The ad includes some great photos, and we wouldn’t be surprised if our pal Jay Brown has a few of these in his collection. Of course he’s sorta like the Freiburger of intake manifolds so we’re sure this one is on his Ebay Watchlist already.

Is it just us or is this thing just begging for a set of NOS Fogger nozzles into each runner right down the middle?

Wanna buy it? Pony up and let us know what it’s going on. We want to see it.

That is a cool looking intake, although rather expensive; I’ve seen them go for a lot less than that. Not to be a know-it-all, but this intake requires a special distributor setup, with a short shaft and spacer that fits into the hole in the block, and a special distributor top that fits in the elevated hole for the distributor. When the buyer says “needs nothing”, well, I guess so if you’ve got the short shaft, spacer, and special distributor on the shelf LOL! One other thing; despite being really cool looking, that manifold is a mediocre performer; see the data in my book for more information on that.

If I had to guess, the twists and the turns the air/fuel mixture has to make contribute to this manifold’s performance. I’ll bet it would do a lot better if somebody welded EFI bungs into the runners, and just used two throttle bodies on the intake, rather than carbs.

And yes, Brian, I do have one of those intakes hanging on the wall 😉

That intake has been on there for several months. I’ve got it on my watch list just to see if someone has deep enough pockets to buy it.

You right Jay, you need the spacer for the distributor. I have seen these sell in the 700 range with the spacer. Its on my wish list for a gasser project. Edelbrock also make a crossram for the FE. I think it was the X-66 or sumptin’ like that. I heard long ago the the M/T was the better of the two because the Edelbrock had reversion issues in the runner ports. Happy motoring…..

Actually, in my dyno tests the Edelbrock XF-66 manifold fared far better than the M/T intake, and it was a top performer on my 500 HP dyno mule. I think both manifolds probably have some reversion issues, but when given a choice the Edelbrock is the better intake. The Edelbrock intake also does not require the special distributor setup that the M/T intake requires.

To an extent, though, it almost doesn’t matter. Both manifolds look cool as hell…
