Best of BangShift 2013: This Running and Driving Half Scale Fiat Topolino A Dad Built For His Son Rules (video)

(Photos and video by Tom Doughty) – We get sent lots of stuff to the tip line (see the contact us button up on top of the page) and we use as much as we possibly can on the blog here at BangShift. This half scale Fiat Topolino Comp Coupe ranks as one of the coolest things we have ever seen and even more boss is the fact that Tom Doughty built the thing for his kid Tommy to drive. This is no pedal car. It’ll run at near highway speeds and we’ve got the video proof to show you!

Here’s what Tom told us about the Fiat:

The body was originally made by Wizzart in Australia, but was purchased from Scott Rods. It was modified from it’s original form to be made into a Comp Coupe type car. It is fully functional with push-button start, an 8HP Briggs and Stratton Engine, Simpson Chute, Halibrand Magnesium Wheels from a midget racer, and M & H Tires. All components were custom fabricated by Tom Doughty, and little Tommy is the pilot. The car is not quite complete as the frame needs final paint to be complete. It runs roughly 45 mph, and even experiences “bump steer” like a real altered or dragster sees due to the axle being set back like it is.

We’ve been talking to Tom and will have more photos and info on this machine soon. Until then, check out this video of it running and driving. This Fiat is AWESOME!

NHRA will never allow creativity in jr. drag racing… been the case many times… they just want your entry money
