Action Gallery: Flat Track Motorcycles and Mini-Sprint Cars at the LoneStar State Flat Track Nationals!

(Photos by Charles Wickam Photography) – When Charles asked if we wanted him to cover a monster truck event or the LonsStar State Flat Track Nationals which would include wild flat track motorcycles and both micro and junior Sprint cars, it was a no-brainer. We wanted to see dirt flying, bikes sliding, and the little sprint cars pulling wheelies out of the corners. The man delivered in spades. This gallery includes some totally awesome action photos of guys getting crazy on dirt…indoors! The event was held at the Pasadena (Texas) Convention Center, which looks like a place that hosts rodeos and cattle auctions regularly, but for last weekend, it was converted into a small, flat, dirt circle track. It does not get much more BangShifty than that!

Adding to the coolness was the fact that the motorcycle guys had a vintage division where old Triumphs did battle against Yamahas and other bikes from the era when “men were men”. The mini-sprint cars look like a riot. Sporting what appear to be motorcycle engines they obviously make some serious snot! You don’t hike the front wheels coming out of corners more than a foot in the air if the motor is lazy! Another impressive thing to us is how focused these drivers must have been on such a short course. There is zero time to think when you are running an oval that is a few hundred feet long at best!

Kudos to all the racers, from the lunatics on the flat track bikes to the pissed off little sprinters. This event looks like a riot all around!

Thanks to Charles Wickam for submitting the photos!

  1. Junior

This is awesome to see some Micro racing coverage. Used to work for FTZ Racing years ago and built exhaust for these cars.
