Action Gallery: Road Course Photos From the 2012 Optima Face Off at Eagles Canyon Raceway

(Photos by Charles Wickam) – After the first day of autocross and speed stop fun, the field of competitors at the Optima Face Off road tripped 70 miles north to Decatur, Texas and the sensationally cool Eagle’s Canyon Raceway road course. This 11 turn, 2.5 mile mind bender has awesome elevation changes, blind corners, long straights, and all of the elements one would want in a Texas road course. After making the trip in a convoy and heading through tech inspection, competitors were grouped together and turned loose on the course for hot lap action.

Again, the mix of competitors was totally awesome with a 572ci big block powered 1956 Pontiac Safari wagon, Louis Gigliotti and his world beating LG motorsports ZR1 Corvette, along with the vast majority of the previous day’s autocross competitors. As this was a “hot lap challenge” we weren’t looking to see fender banging side by side racing. Instead we were paying close attention to lap times and watching who was the quickest around the course.

At the end of the day it was Louis Gigliotti in the ZR1 Corvette. He was the only car to traverse the course in less than 2-minutes. He was quicker than the second place finisher by about four seconds. It was an impressive showing for a very impressive car!

It was nice seeing you in Texas Brian. You did a great job anouncing the event.

The official results were published today. The Corvette ran a best lap of 1:59.772 on the road course. The Lingenfelter Camaro ran a best lap of 2:01.904. While we always want to win, we were pretty happy to run this close to a race prepped supercharged ZR1 Corvette with our 4100 pound NA Camaro.

Optima will be at Road America next weekend, and we will be there with them. We hope to run a little faster.
