Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2015: Five Potential Low-Price Winners For Sunday’s Action

Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2015: Five Potential Low-Price Winners For Sunday’s Action

We know that most people will tune in to the live coverage of Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale to see the big-ticket stuff cross the block for money that runs between “stupid” and “GDP of a small country”. It’s not our cup of tea to watch cars being traded for money normally reserved for property purchases, but there are always those cars that could bring a modest price or will fly far under the radar of the typical Barrett-Jackson bidder. Don’t ask me to explain what the typical Barrett-Jackson bidder is, I get in enough trouble with my opinions as it is. Here’s five that will cross the block on Sunday that look like solid bets that should come in at a reasonable* price.

(* “Reasonable” is compared to B-J auction standards, of course.)

1. 1966 Chevrolet C20

c20

This 283/5-speed Chevy is extremely pedestrian in appearance to the other trucks that are crossing the block. With all of the focus seeming to be on 1967-1972 GM trucks, the lack of a big-block coupled with the looks of a stocker will probably equate to a bargain sale for the right bidder.

2. 1970 Dodge Super Bee

Hear me out: The Pratte collection is packing some of the most desirable Mopars available…so if you have a middle-of-the-road Super Bee come across the block, how much of a fight are you really expecting when everyone has already duked it out over ‘Cudas and wing cars? This 383-powered Bee will sell in the best buyer’s condition: look undesirable by comparison.

3. 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass S

cutlass

It’s a low-mile small block Cutlass in a huge, high-dollar auction. And it’s sweet. It’s no 442, it’s no W-30, it’s not even a Rallye 350. Perfect.

4. 1978 Ford Granada

Granada

The perennial “McTaggart’s most hated car” award winner, I’ll admit that this black Granada is certainly worth the attention. It’s a 26,000 mile 302/4-speed combo, has lived garaged in Nevada all of it’s life, and it’s only modification is a true dual exhaust. The red interior is dealer-brochure pretty. This isn’t the usual B-J fodder, and I bet this goes for far less than it probably should.

5. 1986 Chevrolet K30 3+3 Dually

k30

With all of the other trucks available, this clean Chevy is a toss-up. A fully optioned-out truck with a 454ci and an automatic, plus drop spindles up front and an airbag kit out back, the K30 would normally be attractive as a trick hauler or custom build, but banking on the money being exhausted by the time the Pratte collection is done with, this truck should do alright.

Just to stir the pot…this one’s crossing the block, too.

I get in trouble for my opinions too. But that doesn’t stop me from giving them. The typical B-J buyer is a stupid idiot with dollars than since spending their trust funds on over priced cars.
OK B-J fans go ahead and jump all over me. I’ve got big shoulders. I can handle it.

Why do you think those people that buy cars are idiots? Did your dad spend your college fund on a car or something?

      1. HotRod

I don’t think folks that buy cars are idiots. I think that folks that overpay like they do at B-J are idiots. They’re making it harder for folks like you and me to be able to afford them.
        I didn’t have a college fund.

  2. Mick Tomlin

I would like to watch the first few days of the auction. I love to see the low mileage oddballs go for under 20 grand.

  3. Shelty

so they are selling off that Kingswood that Richard Rawlings ruined?

Id keep the blower, ditch the horrible stickers on it and lose the side pipes.

keeping the blower would be the best thing sinde they hacked the hood, wont find another one that clean.

The problem most people have is that they see the high dollar cars on TV. Go to BJ earlier in the week and they do have bargains since the cars BJ obtain are usually quality cars.
