Every spring and fall I have the opportunity to go my favorite car show ever, the GoodGuys Lone Star Nationals. This was the 22nd year for the fall show, which is always much bigger than the spring show, but they both still rule. I absolutely love the variety of cars and trucks that you see at the show. I especially love the Autocross because I love everything pro-touring. There are a few local cars that I look forward to each time such as Chris Moore’s stunning 1972 Maverick and Mike Dusold’s beastly twin-turbo LS7 Camaro. I was no disappointed this year. Everybody brought it up a notch. There are GoodGuys shows all over the country, but everything is bigger in Texas, right?

This year we brought my dad’s Curious Yellow ’71 ‘Cuda 340 and his 1956 Ford F100 show truck. We didn’t win any awards this time, but we had a great time. Next time our ’71 C10 longbed should be ready to break some hearts. When the show opened on Friday, the turnout was about as large as any Saturday that I had seen yet. I spent the day bouncing back and forth. I caught myself talking and missed a ton of awesome cars there, but I tried to shoot all of the cars that made me stop and stare as I walked by. Let me tell you, there were more of those than you would expect.

The guys were doing absolutely killer at the autocross. I’m blanking on the times, but I believe that Leisenger brought home the 1st place trophy for the pro’s with the Summit Racing sponsored ’64 Corvette. I took some time to check out the chassis on that car and was impressed. It is a straight up race car in every way possible. Bret Voelkel brought home the 2nd place win in the RideTech 48-hour Camaro. When I went to the show, I thought it was a pretty sweet car, but then Jason from RideTech took me on a ride along in it. I never realized how fast it feels on the track. That Camaro is absolutely insane. The power, handling, and braking power are insane. Better than anything I think I have ever ridden in. That night I went to dinner with Mike from RideTech and got to experience how the car feels in the real world. I wasn’t disappointed. The real world handling and ride was still impressive with the suspension setup for racing and all. It was really, really cool. I have to give props to the RideTech guys for doing such a good job with that car. Can’t wait to see what they have in store next.

From bagged trucks to restored classics, there was everything. A couple of my favorites were a pair of slammed Cadillac’s with LSA engines and 6-speeds built by Scott Laitinen. I’m a pro-touring freak so of course I spent a couple of hours drooling over the workmanship in the autocross cars. If you have ANY possible chance to go to a GoodGuys show near you, do it. Next to the Power Tour, it is my favorite event of the year. I could talk about the stuff at the show for hours, but I guess I’ll just let the pictures do the talking. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Here are many, many thousands of words worth of pictures for your viewing pleasure.
