To participate in the land speed races at El Mirage Dry Lake here in California, you must be a member of one of the clubs that comprise the Southern California Timing Association. Last year I was able to join the Milers, so last Saturday was my second meeting with this club that fortunately only meets once a year. It was held at Horsepower Engineering in Pasadena, California. The Milers have been around forever, and have members that have been in the club since the ‘60s. Names like Dan Warner, “Fast” Freddy Dannenfelzer, and the Ferguson Family grace the club roster. And I can’t forget Alan “Fogie” Fogliadini who, in October 2008, became the fastest man in Roadster-class history on the lake at El Mirage while driving the BMR Racing C/Fuel Roadster.

Club President Doug Robinson filled us in on the latest and greatest from the SCTA, got us all to commit to duties at El Mirage, and feed us homemade chili. It was great!
