Event Coverage: NTPA National Tractor Pulling Championships: 5 Engines, 10,000 Horsepower, And 10,000 lbs Of Sled

Brian is a sucker for tractors, and since he’s out of town I’m going to run a tractor gallery in his honor. Of course, these happen to have more in common with Pro Mod’s than anything else, but that’s what makes them cool. Rob Campbell, with MSD Performance, sent us 100 photos and some cool video from this weekends NTPA National Tractor Pulling Championships in Bowling Green, Ohio and managed to capture both pit and on track action! The place looks killer, and I have to say I am a fan of the tractor pulls, although I can’t ever decide whether my favorites are the Two-Wheel Drive Trucks, Unlimited Multi-Engine Tractors, or the little Mini Tractors with a single engine and little front tires. Or is it the Pro Stocks where ungodly amounts of alcohol are being forced through diesel engines with ginormous compound turbo setups. Hell, I guess it doesn’t really matter, they are all cool!

So whether you are a fan of any of the trucks and tractors I listed above, or the super cool Big Rigs, or just the beer at the track, we’ve got what you need right here. Well everything but the beer. That’s in your fridge. Or can be if you play your cards right with your significant other or buddies.

Anyway,

Big thanks again to Rob for getting us great coverage.

The bottom photo above shows a twin Allison V-12 arrangement. Logical reasoning says that what you see is a pair of ignitions for one engine, with a separate ignition for each bank.

These engines in WW II cranked out approximately 2500 hp with a supercharger. These days, they make 3-4K or above. Pretty cool for such an ancient design!
